Neurofeedback is a kind of Biofeedback. It is also called "EEG Biofeedback", and involves physiological monitoring and operant conditioning of brain electrical activity. Other kinds of biofeedback include muscle biofeedback, breath biofeedback, temperature biofeedback, and more. This home-training program focuses on Neurofeedback, with additional kinds of biofeedback equipment also available.
Remote training that is guided by an experienced, licensed, and board-certified professional is a good fit for many people- adults and children alike. Sometimes, more complex cases are better served with in-office sessions with an experienced therapist. Let's talk about your unique situation and we will give you an honest recommendation and referral if we feel that you would be better served with in-person neurofeedback.
BCIA board-certification shows that a clinician is qualified, has received cross-disciplinary education in specific blueprint areas of knowledge, has been mentored/supervised, is licensed in their field of practice, adheres to ethical standards, and has passed a rigorous board examination. This is different than being "certified" by a manufacturer of neurofeedback equipment, or having a "certificate" for completing a training course to use a specific brand of neurofeedback equipment. If you wonder about credentialing, just ask "are you BCIA-board certified in biofeedback or neurofeedback?" or visit BCIA.org to look up a provider's board-certification status.
While Q-EEG brain mapping is not available remotely at this time, we do offer Q-EEG brain mapping at our office in Austin. We may be able to help you locate a clinic that offers this service if we feel that it might be helpful for your remote training. We are able to offer a remote brainwave assessment that can help guide us with training. For complex issues however, Q-EEG brain mapping is an excellent tool that can help us understand how brain function can be better optimized and balanced. With Q-EEG, variables such as processing speed and brain network connectivity can be measured and compared with expected function, which gives a therapist insight into the complex systems at play that might correlate with a client's goals.
The cost of a course of Neurofeedback has been compared to the investment that people make in orthodontics for teeth straightening. Texas Neurofeedback has different training programs available at varying rates. What sets our programs apart is our ability to offer more frequent neurofeedback and biofeedback training sessions per week, anytime and anywhere, guided by a board-certified expert. The fees include unlimited in-home sessions over a period of time, which varies depending on how often you are able to train at home. Most people train 3 times per week for 3-6 months. The weekly or monthly costs depend on the training plan and the type of equipment that we use. We accept most credit cards, HSA debit cards, and we are partnered with Advanced Care Card with a 15 month, zero interest financing plan available for qualified applicants. Please contact us for more information.
At this time, unlikely that your insurance will reimburse you for Neurofeedback or Biofeedback. Most insurance plans do not cover services that are performed out of office, and almost all insurance companies consider Neurofeedback (EEG Biofeedback) to be experimental. With this in mind, we are not contracted with any insurance companies, and we do not provide diagnoses, superbills, letters to insurance companies, or calls to insurance companies. We do accept HSA debit cards, and have a 15 month, zero interest financing plan available to those who qualify. Please see bottom of this page for link to apply.
Most Neurofeedback is dynamic, despite differences in kinds of equipment and training methodologies. The truth is, all Neurofeedback must be dynamic in order to bring about real, long-lasting change. You wouldn't keep working out with the same amount of weight, with the same workout routine over and over again and be able to measure consistent improvements in strength. You would adjust your workouts, and increase the amount of weight and the exercises that you train with over time. Neurofeedback works in much the same dynamic way. It requires changes in challenge levels, and sometimes training different parts of the brain (depending on your personal goals) to generate the kind of brain flexibility that leads to progress and long-lasting improvements. Neurofeedback is safe and non-invasive, and results are long-lasting and sustainable.
